Château Larteau's storied past begins in 1776, with François de Belcier's significant undertakings. It later came under the stewardship of the Beylot family, renowned Bordeaux merchants. For centuries, it stood as a cornerstone in Libourne's political and commercial spheres. In 2007, Jean-Pierre d’Angliviel de la Beaumelle, from a lineage of Bordeaux traders, took over, meticulously preserving its neoclassical architecture. The estate, a French heritage gem, has been invigorated since 2022 with innovative wine blends and premium wine tourism offerings, reflecting a new era under its current ownership.
Over centuries, the Lespine family, renowned in Branne, presided over a 2.34-hectare vineyard. Richard Lespine's sale due to challenges marked a pivotal transition. In 2022, Denis Chazarain and Pierre-Yves Rigaux's acquisition signaled a new era, aiming to craft an exceptional vineyard. Clos Bel Air, on a world-class terroir, combines diligent viticulture and a legacy of fine winemaking. The vineyard, with its mature vines and distinctive soil, is a testament to the enduring allure and potential of Pomerol's unique viticultural heritage.
Château Tour Saint Pierre, built in the 18th century and managed by the Goudineau family since 1928, including Jacques Goudineau as Saint-Émilion's mayor (1988-2007), leverages its historic roots and 11.5-hectare vineyard in Saint-Émilion. This region, flourishing since Gallo-Roman times and boosted by the 1199 Jurade establishment, enriches the estate's Grand Cru. The wine, reflecting this heritage, offers a bold entry, velvety texture, firm tannins, and a complex aroma profile, ending with a persistent fruity finish, a testament to the estate's refined winemaking legacy.
Purchased by Jean-Baptiste Basterot in 1766, Château Sénilhac navigated financial turmoil during the French Revolution, later passing to François Lalande, a notable political figure. The Grassin family's stewardship began in 1938 and lasted until 2017. Subsequently, Denis and Pierre-Yves restored its French legacy, fostering its viticultural renaissance. Known for its clay-limestone soil, the château crafts Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois wines with a focus on sustainable practices, parcel-based vinification, and plans to augment with white grape varieties. The result is a harmonious wine with a balance of ripe fruit and silky tannins.
