The History of L’Emissaire by Larteau

By the decree of King Louis IX of France, the renowned explorer William of Rubruck embarked on a monumental journey to the Great Mongol Empire. Upon his arrival in the heart of the Mongol Empire, the city of Karakorum, William of Rubruck encountered the illustrious Guillaume Boucher, a man of noble stature, who presented him with a magnificent "Silver Tree" adorned with precious jewels. In his travelogue, William of Rubruck describes this remarkable encounter, stating, "Under the blue sky of eternal heaven, amidst the vast expanse of the Golden Horde, I beheld a singular sight: a single stream of golden light emanating from the four corners of the world, converging upon Karakorum, the city of black tents, where it mingled with the silver glow of the moon, shimmering in the waters of the winding river, and culminating in the golden hue of the setting sun.

This account by William of Rubruck serves as a testament to the significance of our shared history and cultural exchange with the Great Mongol Empire during that era.
